Gardening Afternoon May 2019
This week saw the first of our gardening afternoons which was a great success with some of our residents.
The filling of the pots took place in our activities corner in the dining room.
Choosing which pots, they wanted to fill and which plants they wanted to put in and working at table height our residents enjoyed the feel of the soil in their hands as they broke it down and spread it out in the pots. They made the holes for the plants and together we worked at planting the flowers.
Chatting whilst planting brought back a lot of memories for those taking part. One resident in particular had been a gardener in his younger years and this activity brought back memories of work and work buddies and he regaled us with funny stories of his past.
Once the planting had been completed and everyone was happy with the results, we took them and put them outside ready for the sun to do its work.
Everyone agreed that this had been a most enjoyable activity and they were looking forward to looking after the flowers once they were grown.
